(WCSC) - New information has been released about the law enforcement officers involved in the death of a North Charleston man last week on the peninsula. The Charleston Police Department disclosed the disciplinary histories of Senior Police Officer Grant Mattingley and Officers John Wall, Nicholas Jones, Robert Bennett, and Ian Efstathiou on Tuesday afternoon. All five officers have been on administrative duty since 28-year-old Jason Cooper was killed at the Bridgeview Village Apartments early in the morning of December 29, 2020. The incident is being investigated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

Bullet-proof vest saves life of police officer shot in chest, South Carolina cops say Mark Price, The Charlotte Observer Dec. 29 A police officer in Charleston was shot in the chest during a gunfight early Tuesday, but survived due to his bullet-proof vest, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The suspect died in the exchange of gunfire, state officials said. Identities of the officer and the suspect have not been released. No other police were injured, officials said. The incident occurred around 3:15 a.m. when a woman called Charleston police and asked for help with a disturbance and domestic violence incident at the Bridge View Apartments, according to police. Children were present and the family was being threatened by someone with a weapon, city officials said.

SLED: Fort Mill Police Officer Fired After Domestic Violence Arrest

WCCB Charlotte s CW December 29, 2020 FORT MILL, S.C. A Fort Mill Police officer has been terminated after being arrested in Florida on domestic violence charges, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.  Fort Mill Police Department tells WCCB they terminated Officer Stephen Cleary on Monday, December 28th. Cleary was arrested in Hillsboro County, Florida on warrants issued by SLED stemming from an incident that happened in York County on December 27th. Cleary, 36, has been charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful neglect of a child, and kidnapping.  SLED is continuing the investigation which was requested by the Fort Mill Police Department.
