South Carolina Department of Transportation selects Hexagon for safety management system Published December 16, 2020 System will integrate crash data cleansing, safety analysis and reporting (Norcross, Ga., December 16, 2020) â€” South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has selected Hexagon’s Geospatial division to implement a transportation safety management system that will support the state’s roadway safety programs and federal reporting requirements.   The integrated system will allow SCDOT to leverage existing crash data from the South Carolina Department of Public Safety’s databases for quicker and more accurate analysis. It will provide a data-driven environment to help transportation analysts and safety engineers identify high-risk locations based on crash rates, frequency, roadway characteristics and other criteria. The system will also support data collection and project identification for South Carolina’s Highway

Dec. 16 More than a dozen crashes were reported during the Wednesday morning commute on a cold and rainy day in the Midlands. Collisions happened on local roads and highways in Richland, Lexington, and Kershaw counties, according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Injuries were reported in at least three of the Columbia-area wrecks, according to the Department of Public Safety. Additionally, the multiple wrecks and disabled drivers created traffic jams and delays for drivers as lanes were closed on sections Interstate 26 and Interstate 20 running through the Midlands, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

(WCSC) - The organization, Mothers Against Drunk Driving says they will release the finding of a court monitoring report they have been conducting in South Carolina. The report is titled “Refusal to Change” and it breaks down low DUI conviction rates in the state’s biggest counties. The organization said the report will also include seven areas of reform MADD believes South Carolina should consider if the state wishes to improve conviction rates and protect public safety.
