How Igbo communities prepare for farming season

IN Igbo land, various communities usher in the farming season with one form of celebration/festival or the other as a way of thanking God for the previous season and praying for a better farming year.
In Anambra State, where many communities are agrarian with no fewer than 70 per cent of their population engaging in one form of farming activity or the other, some of them have their unique ways of ushering in a new farming season.

Awka, March 3, 2021 Some women development groups have partnered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to empower residents on voter’s education and electoral process ahead of the Nov. 6 governorship election in Anambra.
The groups, the STAGE for Women Development and Unique Development Foundation, during an awareness programme on Wednesday in Awka said that the participation of residents in electoral processes would strengthen democracy.
Mrs Eucharia Adukwulu, the South East Coordinator of STAGE for Women Development, said that voter education was vital to the success of any election.
She said that in addition to reducing voter apathy, that voter education programmes help in awakening the civic consciousness of the people to actively engage in political activities such as voting.

NDLEA arrests 116 drug offenders in one year in Enugu

The Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Enugu State, Mr Abdul Abdullahi says the command arrested 116 drug dealers and users between January 2020 and February 2021.
Abdullahi said this on Tuesday in Enugu during a sensitisation programme and town hall meeting on ‘Preventing Drug Challenges in Enugu State: The Need to Mobilise Stakeholders for Collective Action’.
The commander said that the suspects were made up of 112 males and four females.
He mentioned the substances that were seized from the suspects to include 2.5 tons of cannabis sativa, 76.5 grammes of cocaine and 3.44 grammes of heroine.

An education organisation, Goodmus Learning Centre, Africa, has paid the tuition fees of forty-one students drawn from different secondary schools in Enugu State.
According to a statement, the Chief Executive Officer of the center, Mr Adekunle Badmus, while presenting the cash awards to the students at God Provides Secondary School, Enugu, said he was inspired by the need to reach out to the underprivileged members of society.
Badmus who is also the convener of Quality but Affordable Education in Africa said the centre was interested in helping Nigerian students secure admission to tertiary institutions in Turkey where the government had subsidised education.
