The Chairman of the South-East Governors Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has called on the people of the region to ignore the so-called security outfit set up by the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Umahi, who described the outfit as laughable, stressed that the governors of the region had been doing their best to ensure the protection of lives and property of citizens within the South-East zone.

The recent defection of Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State from the
Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised fresh concerns over who succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 and indeed the zoning of presidential power in Nigeria.
Giving reasons for his defection, Mr Umahi
claimedthe PDP was not planning to pick its 2023 presidential candidate from the Southeast, which has yet to produce a president since democracy was restored in the country in 1999.
The governor, who described the party’s action as insensitive and insincere, argued that for the sake of justice, equity and fairness, the region should be allowed to take a shot at the presidency since, according to him, other regions have done so.

During a BBC Igbo programme on Monday, some of those featured also said the formation of the security outfit is illegal as IPOB has no constitutional backing.
TheCable had reported how IPOB which had been proscribed by south-east governors launched the outfit to protect the south-east and south-south regions from “criminal activity”.
While some have welcomed the development, it was kicked against by other stakeholders including the South-East Governors Forum.

David Umahi, Ebonyi state governor and chairman of the forum, said the leaders have no hand in the move which he described as “very laughable and should be totally ignored”.
