Crane arrival signals milestone in construction of newest parklands

Sunshine Coast Council A viewing platform, boardwalk and access ramps will be lifted into place by a 120-tonne hydraulic crane on Monday (July 26) marking a significant milestone in a multi-million dollar project which is revitalising the Mooloolaba foreshore. The platform and boardwalk infrastructure, constructed by Caloundra business The Jetty Specialists, will connect Alexandra Headlands to the new Mooloolaba foreshore parkland, so everyone can get closer to our beautiful beach. The Palaszczuk Government has invested $4.5 million into the project through the $50 million Unite and Recover Community Stimulus Package for South East Queensland councils to stimulate economies and support jobs. Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt said this project helped drive the Sunshine Coast’s economic recovery from the impacts of the pandemic.

Being in Brisbane for the announcement as part of the COMSEQ delegation reinforced the excitement that exists more than a decade away from the events,” Mayor Antonio said.

The Brisbane Olympics are a leap into an unknowable future The Conversation 23 Jul 2021, 06:39 GMT+10 There ll be two types of Australian high jump in Tokyo this month. The first, most likely scripted, was Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk s front row leap after Brisbane was awarded the right to host the 2032 Olympics. The second will be in response to Australia winning any medals. Palaszczuk s leap is also a plunge into an uncertain future. For the next 11 years there will be much debate about whether it s worth it. As this will be the 35th Olympiad, there is a lot we already know. Most Olympics cost a lot more than planned, and most lose money.

There are villains and disappointments, too, and a plot thread going back to 1986, when Brisbane and a young-gun consultant named John Coates polled a bitter third behind Barcelona and Paris in the race to host the 1992 Games.
