JFD Respond to Back to Back House Fires

By Jeremy Coumbes on May 15, 2021 at 12:21pm The Jacksonville Fire Department responded to back to back calls of house fires last night. A call came into West Central Dispatch of a house fire at 336 E. Wolcott Street at 9:19 last night. Upon arrival, Jacksonville Police Department officers were on scene with the residents of the home in the front yard, who said everyone made it out of the house safely. The home had metal siding on the exterior which had become charged with electricity. Fire Department personnel were able to shut power off at the meter base on the west side of the home. A portion of the siding was removed from the east side where the fire originated in the wood structure behind the siding and the fire was extinguished.

No Injuries Reported in South Jacksonville Hotel Fire

By Jeremy Coumbes on April 12, 2021 at 7:57am The South Jacksonville Fire Department responded to a call of an automatic fire alarm at the Holiday Inn Express located at 2501 Holiday Lane in South Jacksonville at approximately 1:47 pm. According to a report by South Jacksonville Fire Chief Richard Evans, while en-route dispatch advised that a smoke detector and water flow alarm was coming from room 218. On arrival, South Jacksonville Police advised there was smoke on the 2 nd floor and all occupants had safely been evacuated. According to Evans, fire crews encountered heavy smoke in the 2nd-floor hallway. SJFD crews entered room 218 to find the fire was kept in check by the sprinklers being activated. Crews searched room 218 and the adjoining rooms 216 and 220 with no occupants found.

So Jacksonville Fire Dept Installs Over 200 Smoke Detectors Throughout Village

The South Jacksonville Fire Department has spent a good deal of time installing new smoke detectors in several homes throughout the village. Fire Chief Rich Evans says within the last few years, the South Jacksonville Fire Department signed up to take part in the Be Alarmed Smoke Alarm Installation Program. Be Alarmed is administered cooperatively between the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance (IFSA) and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM). The program distributes fire safety education materials and 10-year sealed battery smoke alarms free of charge to fire departments in the state of Illinois.

Area EMS Agencies Recieve Grant Funding from Memorial Med Center Foundation

By Jeremy Coumbes on February 17, 2021 at 11:02am More than 30 EMS agencies in central Illinois are receiving grant funding to help meet training and certification requirements. Thirty-two emergency medical service (EMS) agencies in nine counties will receive more than $17,000 in grant money from the Memorial Medical Center Foundation to purchase instructional materials required for on-site training and certification. According to this morning’s announcement by Memorial Health Systems, the grant will allow the agencies to purchase American Heart Association instructional books for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS), and Pediatric Life Support (PLS) and will allow the groups to train and educate staff and increase the instructor pool at each agency.
