Gov Noem signs executive order to deal with fuel shortage

With tourism season in full swing and the state’s agriculture producers busy as well, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem on Saturday taking steps to ensure an adequate supply of fuel. Citing an unexpected shortage of all types of petroleum-based fuels, Gov. Noem signed an executive order declaring an emergency. The order exempts delivery of gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, from federal rules on drivers’ hours in service. The governor said maintaining the supply of fuel is crucial for tourism and agriculture, two of the state’s major industries. The 30-day order is meant to ensure a steady supply of fuel for visitors, businesses, farmers, and ranchers in the western part of the state.

Noem Appeals Mt Rushmore Fireworks Denial

Credit SD Department of Tourism In early June, a federal judge upheld the denial of a permit for a state fireworks display at Mount Rushmore on the Fourth of July. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is now challenging that order. To pave the way for an appeal to the Eighth Circuit, Noem asked Federal Judge Roberto Lange to convert his ruling on a preliminary injunction to a final judgment. Lange did that earlier this week, and the next day Noem filed notice of intent to appeal. Victoria Wicks has more on this case for SDPB. Listen
