In this January 2021, file photo, ice fishing takes place at the mouth of Hoople Bay, east of Ingleside, Ont. The South Nation Conversation Authority says anglers should remove their ice huts sooner than the March 15, 2021 deadline due to deteriorating ice conditions. (Newswatch Group/Bill Kingston, File) FINCH – Anglers should remove their ice huts sooner than later. That message from the South Nation Conservation Authority given the recent milder weather and the deteriorating ice conditions. The normal deadline is March 15 but the SNCA says the ice in some areas is 15-19 centimeters (6-7.5 inches) thick. It usually recommends at least 15 centimeters for walking and upwards of 30 centimeters (12 inches) for other activities.

Wet, wet, wet! Heavy rain for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day

SD&G – Santa Claus may need rubber boots coming to Eastern Ontario. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in SD&G will be a wet one as Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning this morning (Dec. 24) calling for up to 50 millimeters (1.97 inches) of rain starting tonight and continuing through Friday. “The frozen ground will have a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” leading to localized flooding, the weather agency said. The South Nation Conservation Authority issued a water safety statement, warning people to be careful near lakes and streams. The conservation authority advisory is in effect until Monday, Jan. 4, 2021. Thumbs Up
