Officials add Vegas to Nevada areas with India virus variant
LAS VEGAS (AP) The Las Vegas area has been added to places in Nevada where authorities have detected cases of a potentially worrisome strain of the coronavirus found in India.
A woman in her 20s who had not traveled recently and was not vaccinated against COVID-19 tested positive for a variant subtype officially known as B.1.617.2, the Southern Nevada Health District reported Tuesday.
No additional cases of the variant were reported Wednesday, district spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore said.
The woman did not require hospital treatment, and an investigation aimed to identify people she came in contact with, the district said.

NEW YORKâU.S. health advisers have endorsed use of Pfizerâs COVID-19 vaccine in kids as young as 12.
The Food and Drug Administration earlier in the week cleared the expanded use of Pfizerâs shots, citing evidence the shots worked as well in those 12 to 15 years old as those 16 and older.
Kids in some places are already rolling up their sleeves.
But much of the nation was waiting for Wednesdayâs recommendations from advisers to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Many states will be shipping doses to pediatricians and even to schools.

LAS VEGAS (AP) Health officials in Nevada have said Clark County might not be vaccinating people fast enough to reach the state s goal to remove capacity limits and social distancing requirements next month.
Southern Nevada Health District Chief Health Officer Dr. Fermin Leguen said about 50% of eligible residents 16 and older, or about 919,000 people, had received at least one shot of COVID-19 vaccines as of Friday.
Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak set a state goal to reduce restrictions by June 1. But Clark County, which includes Las Vegas, set a threshold to vaccinate 60% of its population, or more than a million people, before fully reopening.
