CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT) - Thousands of members of the Southside Electric Cooperative were still waiting for their electricity to be restored, including James and Sandra Lance in Chesterfield.
The couple initially lost power last Saturday after the first ice storm hit the Richmond Metro area. However, they say theyâre blessed because their neighbors have stepped in to give them equipment, like a heater, to help them get by.

DINWIDDIE Co., Va. (WWBT) - Thousands of Dinwiddie County residents remain without power more than six days after the first ice storm wreaked havoc on power lines and trees in Central Virginia.
Many people said it has been nearly impossible trying to get ahold of someone at Southside Electric Cooperative to have them come and clear power lines across roads. Some homeowners are now taking matter into their own hands.

CREWE, Va. (WWBT) - Southside Electric Cooperative has increased its line crews working to restore power outages thanks to mutual aid and contract crews.
Crews from five states and neighboring Virginia Electric Cooperatives and contract crews, including Dominion Energy, are assisting SEC’s restoration efforts after Winter Storms Tabitha knocked out power to 80 percent of members.
“We are grateful to our Cooperative mutual-aid and contract crews, and thankful to Dominion and their contract crews for providing assistance to our crews who have been working around the clock since last Saturday to restore power to our members,” said SEC President and CEO Jeff Edwards.

CHESTERFIELD Co., Va. (WWBT) - Despite no major outages reported Thursday afternoon as a result of the second ice storm, power crews say that does not mean outages may not happen in the future.
The threat of widespread outage is still real for thousands of Virginians.
Many residents in the rural areas of Virginia remain without power nearly six days after it first went out.
As of Thursday evening, Southside Electric Cooperative reported more than 22,000 customers still in the dark.
