Subscriber only A stolen vehicle has been used in multiple burglaries in the South Burnett region before alleged thieves attempted to set it alight near Toogoolawah. Toogoolawah police officer in charge Sergeant John Cumner said the stolen vehicle, a dark blue Mitsubishi Triton, was dumped before an attempt was made to set it alight on Cressbrook-Caboonbah Road. Following the attempted torching, a 2019 silver Landcruiser was stolen from across the road, with the offender entering a property and taking the keys to steal the vehicle. The family of a woman who was killed when her partner of 10 years veered off a roadway in the South Burnett region continue to deal with the trauma of witnessing the fiery crash.
Loganlea man Aaron John Mannell appeared before Maroochydore District Court on Friday to be sentenced for dangerous driving causing death following the death of his partner, 26-year-old Sabrina Monique Strasberger.
The couple were travelling along Chinchilla Wondai Road, Durong, on August 10, 2019, in a convoy of four cars going camping with family.
The 27-year-old learner driver was travelling at 100km/h behind three other vehicles when his car veered to the right, colliding with a raised driveway causing the car to flip several times before facing upright in the direction of travel.

Subscriber only A South Burnett man told police divine intervention allowed him to grow a personal supply of drugs, but the same divine presence didn t keep him out of court. Paul Gregory Conomos faced Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday, May 10, facing four charges related to a search warrant executed at his Gordonbrook Dam caravan on April 14, 2020. The 6o-year-old pleaded guilty to producing cannabis, possessing cannabis, possessing a bong, grinder and pipe, and obstructing police. Police Prosecutor sergeant Pepe Gangemi said police executed the search warrant at Conomos property at 10.30am, finding two cannabis plants, 288 grams of cannabis leaf and drug paraphernalia such as bongs and grinders.

Subscriber only A Ballogie man convicted of raping a 17-year-old girl and sexually groping a 12-year-old has fronted court again, after it was discovered he had signed up for a dating app and failed to inform police. Joshua Mark Skvaridlo faced Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday, May 10, and pleaded guilty to one charge of failing to comply with reporting obligations. In October 2014, Skvaridlo faced Kingaroy District Court on charges of indecent treatment of children where he was sentenced to a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and 18 months probation for sexually groping a 12-year-old. Skvaridlo was represented in court by Mark Werner, who said the failure to report had been a misunderstanding and there was nothing sinister behind the breach.
