PISCATAWAY, NJ For 38 years “An Evening of Gospel Choirs” has drawn the soulful, soaring sounds from many of the historic African American churches from Piscataway, New Brunswick and South Bound Brook.
Under the direction of Rutgers professor Angus Kress Gillespie, this year’s festival series is being held virtually because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A South Bound Brook mother accused of killing her 4-year-old-son appeared emotionless in the wake of his death, allegedly telling police, “This is pretty serious,” charging documents show.
Elina Gutti, 38, from South Bound Brook, is accused of killing her son, Aiden Singhania, early Saturday morning.
Gutti called 911, saying her wrist was cut while she was sleeping, charging documents say. When police arrived at the South Bound Brook home Gutti was holding a towel over her wrist and had blood on her hands, police said.
BOUND BROOK, New Jersey (WABC) A mother from New Jersey is accused of murdering her four-year-old son.
Elina Gutti, 38, of South Bound Brook called 911 early Saturday morning, saying she had injuries to her wrist.
When police responded, they found her son, Aiden Singhania, in his bedroom with severe lacerations. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police recovered a knife at the scene.
Gutti is undergoing a psychiatric evaluation.
South Bound Brook mom charged in slashing-murder of 4-year-old
SOUTH BOUND BROOK A borough woman has been charged with murdering her 4-year-old son who appears to have been slashed to death in their home early Saturday.
Police found the dying, wounded child after his mother called 911 at 2:28 a.m. to report that she had unexplained injuries on her own wrist.
When police arrived at the Cedar Street residence, they met Elina Gutti, who had a minor injury on her left wrist. But they also found her child in the bedroom with what prosecutors described as severe lacerations.
Despite lifesaving measures, medical workers at the house pronounced Aiden Singhania dead at 3:17 a.m. Prosecutors are waiting on an autopsy to declare how exactly the child died.
