Mar 12, 2021 Southern Regional Hospital to Acquire 2 Ambulances The Southern Regional Hospital has secured funding from the Government of Japan to purchase new ambulances. On Thursday, the Japanese Ambassador Kazuhiro Irgu presented a check for almost four hundred thousand dollars to the medical facility.  The handing over is the result of an application made by the management team at the Southern Regional to the Grassroots Human Security project. According to the Ministry of Health, the project assists non-governmental organizations and local public authorities in developing countries improve their health facilities and procure equipment for hospitals.  Michel Chebat, Minister of Health and Wellness and Doctor Franelda Guitterez the Regional Health Manager accepted the grant funds from the Ambassador Irgu.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams commented on these occurrences, explaining that it seems to be three groups working within southern Belize to carry out these crimes. Some persons known to police have been arrested for fisheries offenses as well as being members of gangs. He further stated that two of the groups seem to specifically operate between the Stann Creek District and Honduras.

Charges to be brought against driver in fatal RTA | The Guardian Newspaper

On the night of Tuesday, February 9, 2021, a traffic accident which took place on the Stann Creek Valley Road claimed the life of 26-year-old Arita Vanzie and left three others injured. She was travelling inside a four-door Chevrolet Impala along with driver of the vehicle 21-year-old Damion Usher, Customs Officer 24-year-old Deon Castillo, and Zane Zuniga. It is reported that Usher lost control of the vehicle before running into a ditch and hitting a culvert. Vanzie died while receiving treatment at the Southern Regional Hospital and the three others were transported to the hospital for treatment. Police have since reported that those three persons have been released from the hospital and that Usher has been issued a notice of intended prosecution (NIP) pending the result of Vanzie’s post mortem examination. Roaring Creek Resident Perishes in Fatal RTA | Channel5Belize com

Feb 10, 2021 Arita Vanzie Roaring Creek resident, Arita Vanzie, died in a fatal car crash on the Stann Creek Valley Road. The three other persons traveling in the vehicle received various injuries and lived to tell the tale. The group was travelling from Belmopan to Dangriga when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car ran off the road and into a culvert. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.   Duane Moody, Reporting Just after eight o’clock on Tuesday night, there was a fatal road traffic accident in Dangriga, which claimed the life of Arita Vanzie, a twenty-six-year-old pawnshop employee from Roaring Creek Village. Vanzie was one of four persons travelling in a Chevy Impala car when the driver, Customs Officer Deon Castillo, lost control of the vehicle and ran into a ditch, hitting a culvert. Vanzie died while receiving treatment at the Southern Regional Hospital.
