Frontier sheds Middletown facility for $1 1M

An area commercial landlord has acquired a Frontier Communications facility on Highland Avenue in Middletown for $1.1 million.  Stone Point Properties LLC closed on 550 Highland Ave. on Jan. 15, according to town officials. Frontier and its predecessor Southern New England Telephone had used the 40,000-square-foot building, which sits on 8 acres, as a garage work center and as administrative space. Stone Point owns several commercial properties in Middletown, including the Capitol building at 350 Main St., Main Street Market at 366-386 Main St., and 392 Washington Street. The company’s two co-owners did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday morning about their plans for the property, which is zoned for multifamily or could be expanded for industrial use, according to listing broker Cushman & Wakefield.

Developer Winstanley bets big on New Haven as a bioscience hub

By Natalie Missakian Developer Carter Winstanley has spent the last 22 years working to build up a life science hub in New Haven. In the beginning, he set a modest benchmark for success. “My original goal was to get 300 George St. leased,” Winstanley says, referencing his transformation of a vacant Southern New England Telephone company building into a high-tech home for Elm City biotechs. Two decades later, 300 George is at capacity, and two subsequent Winstanley bioscience buildings 25 Science Park and 100 College St., home of Alexion Pharmaceuticals are also full. This spring, he plans to kick off construction on a second, $100 million bioscience tower at 101 College St., set to open in 2023, and he is finalizing deals with major tenants.
