SOUTH PORTLAND – Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather -Robert Stevens “Steve” Link, 82, of 17 Mildred St., South Portland, passed away Jan. 1, 2021. Born in St. Louis, Mo., April 11, 1938, the second son of Emerson Blaine and Nancy (Smith) Link, both deceased of Tenants Harbor.
Steve was a twelfth generation descendent of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. He graduated from Webster High School in Webster Groves, Mo. in 1956. He lettered in wrestling and golf. He served in the U.S. Army for three years, graduating from postal operations school and serving two years in Japan. He graduated from Washington State Teachers College in Machias in 1963. He earned a Master of Science degree in Education from Gorham State College in 1968. He had earned over 60
Thomas Dyer, who maintained South Portland’s parks, dies at 50
The South Portland High School graduate had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp at Moosehead Lake.

Thomas Dyer, a parks maintainer for the South Portland Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department, died Jan. 1 from complications of acute pancreatitis. He was 50.
Mr. Dyer was remembered last week as a good man who loved his family and community and had a passion for the outdoors.

In 2017, Mr. Dyer accepted a dream job of caring for the city’s parks, trails, and green spaces. He mowed the parks, planted bulbs, did tree work and helped with many beautification projects. In the winter months, he plowed.

SOUTH PORTLAND- Dianne Susan (Whitmore) Gooley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, godmother, aunt, cousin, passed away on Dec. 21, 2020.Dianne was born on April 14, 1947, the youngest of three, with sisters Lillian and Martha. She graduated from South Portland High School, and aside from a brief time living in Boston, working at the Institute for the Blind, she was a lifelong resident of Maine, mostly in South Portland. She met her husband of 50 years, Bruce, while working in Boston. They married Jan. 24, 1970, and within a year had moved to Maine and began a family, eventually having two children, Kathleen and George.Once Kathleen, and then George, were born, Dianne’s work was in the home, taking care of the home and children. Program provides families with healthy food

SOUTH PORTLAND The Locker Project and the South Portland School Department have benefitted from a partnership together, helping students and families continue to have healthy food all year.
Primarily serving South Portland, Portland and Westbrook, the nonprofit Locker Project provides fresh food, healthy staples to schools, said the organization’s website.
Beginning in 2015, the Locker Project opened a school pantry at Kaler Elementary, then expanding to Brown, Memorial, Skillin and South Portland High School in 2016, Small and Mahoney in 2019 and Dyer in the fall of 2020, Kathryn Sargent, executive director, said.
