Teams from Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution worked to upgrade and strengthen the electricity infrastructure, ensuring local power supplies are robust ahead of the worst of the winter months. The investment was designed to improve the current service as well as support future requirements, with the replacement of existing electrical equipment at Taynuilt substation. The existing transformer and outdoor circuit breakers supplying power to more than 500 properties have been replaced. A new 11,000 volt switchboard was also installed to enable faster restoration of supplies on the rare occasion that faults occur.

Louise Jones, SSEN’s Priority Services Manager, said: “Since the Priority Services Register first started six years ago, we now have around 754,000 customers benefitting from the free help and support it can offer. But we know there may still be customers who haven’t thought about signing up, and so I’d encourage everyone to take a few minutes to think about how they’d manage if the power was to go off unexpectedly, and if they think they’d need a bit of extra help please get in touch with us.”

Thousands of Swindon homes lose power due to network fault

Thousands of homes have been hit by a power cut due to a network fault. It caused the power to go off to 2,367 homes in the Brunel Crescent, Whitehouse Road, Ferndale Road and Richmond Road. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said a team of engineers will be on site shortly. SSEN s control room engineers were able to re-route supplies and reduce the number of customers without power down to 1,210, as of 4.45pm today.  It is predicted that the lights will be back on by 7.30pm.  A fault-finding investigation to establish the cause of the power cut will be carried out after all supplies have restored.
