Thousands blacked out in power cut

Power cuts in the BA15 and BA2 areas THOUSANDS of people living in the Bradford on Avon and outer Bath areas suffered a power cut this morning. The electricity power cut lasted around 45 minutes and affected homes in 132 postcode areas, including Bradford on Avon BA15 area as well as BA2. A spokesman for Scottish & Southern Electricity Network apologised for the outage, which happened at around 11.23am and said they hoped to restore power by 2.30pm. The company said: “We’re sorry for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are on site working hard to get the power back on as quickly as they can.

Tree cutting helps protect historic Highland building

Sign Up Electricity workers branched out to use their skills to protect a landmark building in a Highland village. The historic icehouse in Helmsdale was under threat from the roots of trees growing close by. Building custodians Garbh Allt Community Initiative was concerned the trees could potentially cause structural damage. Gavin Ogilvie, a surveyor with Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks’ tree cutting department, and two colleagues cut away the trees before the latest lockdown restrictions. He said: “It feels great to be able to support the local community with such an interesting and important part of Helmsdale’s history.”
