Tributes paid to popular Co Tyrone social worker following Covid death Social worker Nuala McLaughlin 24 December, 2020 01:00 TRIBUTES have been paid to a Co Tyrone social worker and mother-of-two who lost her life to coronavirus. The Western Health Trust said no task was too big or small for principal social worker Nuala McLaughlin, who died on Tuesday at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen. A sister of Fr Peter McAnenly of St Patrick s Cathedral Parish in Armagh, Mrs McLaughlin had been a social worker for more than 20 years. In a statement posted online, the trust said: Everyone within the Western Trust are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague.

Tributes have been paid tribute to a “passionate, dedicated and committed” social worker in the Western Trust who died after contracting coronavirus. Nuala McLaughlin died peacefully on Tuesday at the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen, after working for almost 20 years within the Western Trust’s Family and Childcare Directorate. A family notice said her death was “deeply regretted” by her wider family, including her two children. Colleagues passed on their condolences with a moving tribute posted on the Western Trust’s Facebook page. “Everyone within the Western Trust are deeply saddened by the untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague, Nuala McLaughlin,” the message read.

MORE than 2,000 people in the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) region have now received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine since the roll-out began in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland’s Health and Social Care Trusts mobilised their staff vaccination clinics from the beginning of this week as part of a phased programme thta includes the Lakeland Forum in Enniskillen as one of seven designated vaccination centres. As of Monday, December 2, across the WHSCT region, 848 care home residents and 1,318 staff have received their first dose of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine. Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Michael McBride, said: “All staff working in health and social care will be able to get the vaccination in line with the advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation.

Western Trust preparing for third Covid surge

South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen and Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry are working ‘beyond capacity’ to cope with Covid19 and also the winter flu season. The number of positive patients in the local community have increased over the last number of days and the Trust is now preparing for a third surge with increasing Covid related admissions.
