The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is reminding residents to celebrate Ramadan safely this year by staying home.
On Tuesday, the Islamic holy month’s first day, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Wajid Ahmed advised those observing their second pandemic Ramadan to do so with members of their own household instead of attending indoor gatherings, which are not allowed under current provincial shutdown restrictions.

The health unit “encourages residents to celebrate and pray at home with their household members only, and connect virtually with others,” Ahmed said.
