South Western Ambulance crew speak out about knife threat

TWO south west ambulance crew members have spoken out after being threatened with a knife in earlier this year. Paramedic Tom and emergency care assistant Catherine, both of South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT), were threated when they responded to a concern for welfare incident in January. They attempted to reach the patient who responded by threatening to stab them unless they left her. They retreated to their ambulance and requested police attendance. The woman was then at her window gesturing a kitchen knife towards them, and then put it in a bag and put her coat on.

Driver of grey Audi S3 fled after crash injuring ambulance workers

THREE ambulance workers were injured in fail to stop collision in Southmead early this morning (Sunday). A car collided with a stationary ambulance in Toronto Road, Southmead, at 4.30am, injuring three South Western Ambulance Service employees. Following the collision, the driver of the car, a grey Audi S3, got out of the vehicle and fled the scene. Three South Western Ambulance Service employees were taken to hospital for emergency treatment. Two remain at hospital where they are being treated for injuries and one has since been discharged after being treated for minor injuries. Acting Sgt Andrew Parker, of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “An investigation is being carried out into this serious collision which has left three ambulance service employees injured.

Wyke Coastguard rescue woman in Weymouth marina after dislocating hip

A WOMAN dislocated her hip on a vessel in Weymouth Marina just after midnight was  Wyke Coastguard were called to the marina, in Commercial Road around 1am on Sunday morning and assisted the South Western Ambulance Service during the operation. A spokesman from the coastguard said: The team paged were just after 1am to assist South Western Ambulance Service in Weymouth Marina. A female on a vessel had dislocated her hip. After paramedics reduced her pain score she was placed on the teams stretcher and carried from the vessel. She was placed on the ambulance service s stretcher and the team assisted paramedics, wheeling her safely across the pontoons to the awaiting ambulance.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service has issued an urgent warning over an incident in Gummow s Shop Residents of an area in mid Cornwall are being warned to keep their doors and windows closed following a fire involving hazardous materials. It has been described as a multi-agency incident in the area of Gummow s Shop, a hamlet in the St Newlyn East area, not far from Newquay. In a message described as urgent , Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service wrote on Twitter: Urgent - Due to a multi-agency incident in mid Cornwall, we are advising all residents in the area of Gummow s Shop to keep doors and windows closed.
