CLOCK: Clock tower waiting for repairs - planning application PLANS to repair the historic clock tower at Ulverston Railway station are recommended to be approved. The tower was built in the 1870’s, with the station constructed in an Italianate style with a French pavilion. The tower has provided a focal point within Ulverston ever since. A full report into preserving the clock tower, has been lodged with Ulverston town council along with the district council, the county council and Network rail. A report released ahead of a planning committee meeting shows stonework repairs and cleaning will take place including - clock face repairs using Opel, perspex cast acrylic.

AFTER multiple objections due to litter concerns from residents McDonald s have issued a statement regarding the rubbish it could potentially create. Plans to open a McDonald’s at Oubas Hill in Ulverston - next to the Booths supermarket - have been in the works for more than two years after a number of delays, but there were a number of concerns in regard to litter. When the plans were first brought to South Lakeland District Council, there were 157 letters of objection, plus 47 letters and a petition in support. However, the planning committee still recommended the fast food giant for approval.
