April 30, 2021 You’re reading it here first: In a first, the Central government has given its nod to government and educational institutions to take up “beyond the visual line of sight” (BVLOS) operations provided that they meet the criteria of the Directorate General Of Civil Aviation. MediaNama has learnt that this decision was taken in a BVLOS expert committee meeting recently in view of the myriad proposals the Ministry of Civil Aviation was receiving with regard to the use of drones to deliver COVID19 vaccines. What is BVLOS? As opposed to “visual line of sight” (VLOS)  operations which underlines that the pilot of the drone has to maintain continuous, unaided visual contact with the unmanned aircraft, BVLOS drone operations allow for piloting a drone remotely, without having to be manoeuvred by looking at it.

In a letter to Union Minister for Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad, it is clear that the Union government is not inclined to continue the ITIR scheme, he may consider providing a scheme/initiative in its place to ensure that cities like Hyderabad continue to flourish and provide employment to youngsters.

He said he was looking forward to a world where there will be rules and regulations for privacy and data safety like food safety laws and drug safety laws. “One thing I hope for is that we don’t fragment, that we are able to, whether it’s on privacy or data safety, bring together a set of global rules that will allow all of us to both comply and make sure that what we build is safe to use,” he said in a virtual interactive session with Telangana’s Information Technology and Industry Minister K. T. Rama Rao during Bio Asia 2021.
