NGT team reviews Musi River’s cleanup, rejuvenation works

Hyderabad: Officials of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) have visited various locations of ‘Musi River’ in connection with its cleanup and rejuvenation works. The retired High Court Justice Vilas Afzalpurkar along with the NGT committee officials visited the river sites and reviewed its cleanup and restoration work.
According to the NGT officials, Justice Afzalpurkar shall submit his report to the Tribunal. Justice Afzalpurkar along with the NGT team visited Chaderghat, Bapughat, High Court and other places where the Musi river has a better flow. This expert committee shall submit its report about the river restoration work to the Tribunal with its recommendations.

Following the report ‘Toxic COVID waste burnt, mixed with trash’ published in these columns on January 8, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) carried out inspection of the sites and issued notices to Area Hospital, Golconda and Malakpet for non-compliance of the Bio-Medical Waste Management (BMWM) Rules 2016.
“The Board officials inspected Area Hospital, Golconda on 08.01.2020 and observed that the Area Hospital-Golconda is disposing the Bio-Medical Waste to M/s. Roma Industries, Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility (CBMWTF). It was also noticed that general waste was being burnt in the premises and some PPE kits were mixed with general waste,” said TSPCB in a note about action taken.

An environmental public hearing was conducted for change of technology from the Load, Haul and Dumper (LHD) operations to the Continuous Miner method in the existing Padmavathi Khani 5 incline underground mine of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) at Rudrampur in Chunchupalli mandal on Tuesday.
The public hearing was held under the aegis of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) as per the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC)’s notification dated April 6, 2018, under the environmental clearance re-validation category as per the standard terms of reference, SCCL sources said.
Noise pollution turns deathly in Hyderabad’s residential areas

According to a paper published on the matter last year, it was noted that more than 68 per cent of noise pollution originates from vehicles.
HYDERABAD: Noise levels in the Hyderabad’s residential areas have crossed the threshold limit set by the Central Pollution Control Board of 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night.
In December, the noise levels in residential hubs like Jubilee Hills and Tarnaka were recorded at 94.89 decibels and 101.28 decibels, respectively.
This, officials of the Board say is due to an increase in commercial activities across residential zones.
