Linklaters makes twin Hong Kong partner hires to boost corporate and banking teams

Xiaoxi Lin joins from Kirkland & Ellis and Alessandro Nolet joins from White & Case
Hong Kong strengthens its position as an arbitration seat for Chinese matters Shutterstock Magic Circle firm Linklaters has made a double partner hire in Hong Kong with the arrival of M&A lawyer Xiaoxi Lin and leveraged finance expert Alessandro Nolet. Lin joins the firm’s corporate practice from Kirkland & Ellis, while Nolet joins the firm’s banking practice from White & Case. Lin brings with him extensive experience in private equity, focusing on buyouts and growth capital investments. Nolet, meantime, focuses on advising banks and financial institutions, private equity funds and corporates on banking, finance and restructuring transactions.
Kim and Clark will have subpoena power in their investigation, which is expected to result in a written report.
Kim, who previously served as US attorney for the powerhouse Southern District of New York, is a partner at elite Wall Street firm Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, where he focuses on white-collar criminal defense, internal investigations, regulatory enforcement, and crisis management.
Kim has spent the last 25 years bouncing between Cleary and the Southern District, where he has also served as chief counsel, chief of the criminal division, and deputy US attorney.
At Cleary, he represented Nissan in a US Securities and Exchange Commission investigation after its former chairman was accused of failing to disclose $80 million in compensation, and a hedge fund founder who pled guilty to federal bankruptcy fraud by trying to short-change creditors in the Neiman Marcus bankruptcy.

New York Attorney General Letitia James appointed attorney Joon H. Kim and Anne L. Clark on Monday to lead an independent investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“We are committed to an independent and thorough investigation of the facts,” James said in a statement. “Joon H. Kim and Anne L. Clark are independent, legal experts who have decades of experience conducting investigations and fighting to uphold the rule of law. There is no question that they both have the knowledge and background necessary to lead this investigation and provide New Yorkers with the answers they deserve.”
