New ESB plans for Moneypoint power station could see the plant power 1.5 million homes via offshore wind.
It’s expected plans for the West Clare facility will be included in a nationwide long-term strategy for decarbonisation later this week.

It’s believed government is to propose a 270 square kilometre offshore wind project off the coasts of both Clare and Kerry, with Moneypoint to be at its centre.
The proposed project, which will be worked on by both the ESB and Norwegian company Equinor, is due to be delivered in two phases if it comes to fruition.

CLARE councillors are calling for more flexibility to be applied to increase the amount of land that is zoned for residential development in the county.
Following official sanction for the completion of the final part of the €58 million of the Limerick Northern Distributor Road Coonagh to Knockalisheen Road, Councillor P J Ryan said a lot of land on the N18 from Lansdowne to the Radisson Hotel should be zoned for commercial and residential development.

THE Department of Housing has defended its decision not to approve Clare County Council’s plans for a multi-million social and affordable housing development in Meelick.
Deputy Cathal Crowe wrote to the Housing Minister asking why a loan was denied to Clare County Council to develop a mixed housing development comprising of 70 social and affordable housing in Meelick last year.
SUPERMACS managing director Pat McDonagh has said the granting of planning permission for a new Barack Obama plaza-style motorway service station on the outskirts of Ennis “will be a huge boost” to the county capital.
Clare County Council have given the green light to the €10 million development adjacent to Junction 12 of the M18 at Kilbreckan, Doora which is set to create 120 jobs. This was the fast-food chain’s fourth application to develop the service station at this location.
Reacting to the granting of planning permission for the development, Mr McDonagh said the decision is affirmation of the commitment of the local authority to the people of Clare.
