Consolidated wraps some FTTP upgrades in New Hampshire

News Wire Feed Light Reading 12/17/2020 MANCHESTER, N.H. – Consolidated Communications (NASDAQ: CNSL), a top-10 fiber provider in the U.S., today announced the completion of new, high-speed, fiber-to-the-premises broadband networks to homes and businesses in the New Hampshire towns of Danbury, Errol, Mason and Springfield. More than 500 miles of fiber were constructed, serving more than 2,000 residents and businesses. In August, Consolidated was awarded $3.5 million from the state s Connecting New Hampshire Emergency Broadband Expansion Program to bring enhanced and upgraded Internet services to these towns. Grants awarded through the program support the increased need for Internet connectivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the emphasis on distance learning, telework, telehealth and other remote services. The grant awarded to Consolidated - along with the company s own investment of $1.5 million - funded the broadband projec

Stowe to join internet district

Stowe is no longer content to remain on the sidelines while most other towns in Lamoille County join together to improve broadband access and quality in the state’s second-most rural region. The Stowe Selectboard Monday voted to apply for membership with Lamoille FiberNet, the recently established communications union district that aims to bring locally-controlled, high-speed internet to its member towns. If Stowe’s application is approved — and FiberNet has long been cajoling Stowe to join — it would be the eighth member town. The decision came after a two-hour discussion Monday in which local provider Stowe Cable touted its achievements while warning against joining another team.

Evan Carlson, chairman of NEK Community Broadband, said 49 percent of the addresses in the three-county region have Internet access below 25 megabytes per second – a far cry from what’s considered high-speed Internet or broadband.

Mattoon virtual Holiday Festival exceeds expectations

MATTOON — Sarah Bush Lincoln’s 22nd annual Holiday Festival was an enormous success. Held virtually for the first time, the event raised nearly $100,000 to support the SBL Children’s Dental Program. “We had to get really creative this year during these unprecedented times. Our goal from the beginning was to offer the community some familiarity while keeping everyone safe, and the community responded very generously to help provide dental care to children in need. Sponsorships and donations raised a record $52,000 and bidding on both silent and live auction items did extremely well despite the challenge of this not being an in-person event,” SBL event coordinator Kim Lockart said.

Rangeley Area Broadband Proposal

Read Article Consolidated Communications delivered a broadband presentation to the Rangeley Board of Selectmen on December 7, 2020 at 5pm.  Consolidated currently provides landline phone and limited internet service in the Rangeley area.  Consolidated is one of the top ten fiber providers in the U.S. offering a broad range of fiber based broadband services.  The Consolidated proposal would provide Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) to all residences of Rangeley, Rangeley Plantation, Dallas Plantation and Sandy River Plantation.  Symmetrical speeds up to 1000Mpbs (1 Gig of upload and download) would be available. The cost to rewire the core network with new fiber lines would require the Towns to finance approximately 3.7 million dollars.  This is typically done through a combination of bonds, loans and grants.  These financial costs are recovered by an end user monthly infrastructure fee.  This infrastructure fee is collected by Consolidated who then forwards an amount equal to the
