The annual Click it or Ticket campaign kicked off Monday, and runs through June 6.
This means more patrol cars will be out conducting traffic stops.
Lt. Brian Giddis tells 9&10 News that the campaign is meant to bring awareness to the importance of seatbelts, not just to pull more people over.
“The aim is not to just go out and write tickets,” said Lt. Giddis. “It’s to raise awareness for people to take that extra second before they put it in drive to go ahead and fasten the seatbelt, make (sure) their passengers are buckled up, particularly children.”

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – Police have identified a Michigan man who allegedly hijacked a bus and caused a vehicle crash in Northern Michigan.
Kyle Stephan Willobee, 24, of Luzerne, has been charged with carjacking, assault with a dangerous Weapon, reckless driving and habitual offender third offense. He was arraigned on Monday in the 86th District Court in Grand Traverse County. His bond was set at $25,000.

We now know the name of the man charged in a Grand Traverse County stabbing.
The Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office says Ian Appold forced his way into an apartment last Tuesday in Garfield Township and pointed a gun at his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.
Investigators believe he made the victim drink alcohol at gunpoint, then stabbed the victim multiple times before the victim was able to escape.
Appold is now facing four charges, including assault with intent to murder and unlawful imprisonment.
KINGSLEY â A 24-year-old Luzerne man is in custody after he hijacked a Bay Area Transportation Authority bus, crashed into another vehicle Tuesday in Kingsley and injured a Manton woman.
The Cadillac Michigan State Police Post reported that at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, the 24-year-old Luzerne man boarded the BATA bus at the Northland Food Grocery store in Kingsley bus stop and attempted to take the fire extinguisher out of its holder. The bus driver radioed for help. Fearing the man was going to strike him or spray him with the fire extinguisher, the bus driver exited the bus, according to police.
