Delegation to be taken to Delhi soon
The State government has decided to take a delegation of MLAs to the national capital to seek funds from the Centre under the Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) for erecting barricades in forest areas to prevent entry of wild animals into human habitats.
Forest Minister Arvind Limbavali on Thursday chaired a meeting with MLAs whose constituencies witnessed man-animal conflicts and said barricades would be erected in forest areas covering 624 km.
Already 165 km had been fenced and ₹550 crore would be required to fence the rest of the forest areas. The State required funds from the Centre and a delegation of MLAs would be taken to Delhi soon to submit a memorandum, Mr. Limbavali said.
Karnataka’s Industries, Labour Minister holds talks with Toyota union, management

× Karnataka’s Minister of Major and Medium Industries and Labour Minister held talks with Toyota workers union and management and heard their problems on Monday in an effort to resolve contentious issues.
Officials of Toyota, Industries Minister Jagdish Shettar and Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar held a lengthy discussion with labour leaders at the Udyog Mitra premises.
The meeting was also attended by Member of Parliament DK Suresh, Magadi MLA M Manju, Additional Chief Secretary Gaurav Gupta and Industries Commissioner Gunjan Krishna.
Problems of labour union leaders and Toyota officials were heard. Keeping the State’s interest as an investment destination, Shettar suggested that the long-running issues of Toyota workers should be resolved amicably.

Labour Minister Shivaram Hebbar promised to hold another round of meeting with the agitating workers of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) at the Bidadi plant, where THE stir has crossed 85 days.
Replying to a question raised by BJP member G. Karunakara Reddy in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said that union leaders were adamant in their stance and had not attended some of the meetings convened.
Intervening in the debate, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah said that he had visited the striking workers and their grievances and that of their families also need to be addressed seriously.
“Any company has to honour the law of the land,” he said, highlighting the grievances of workers on production targets set, among other things. The Chief Minister should intervene in the matter, he said, adding, “The distraught wives and children of the striking employees were also sitting with them when I visited.”

AAA Urging Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to immediately intervene and resolve the dispute between the workers and the management of Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) at the Bidadi plant, Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah on Sunday said he would raise the issue in the Assembly to bring pressure on the government.
“The employees of Toyota have been protesting for about three months. The State government should have resolved the issue by now. If the problem cannot be resolved by the Labour Minister, the Chief Minister should intervene,” he said during his visit to the protest site at Bidadi, near here, to meet the protesting workers and their families. He said the government should immediately intervene since the families of workers were in a dire situation as they have not received salary for three months.
Company conducts background check, police verification of 8,500 contract staff
Wistron, the Taiwanese firm that makes iPhone-7 and iPhone SE for Apple at Narasapura in Karnataka’s Kolar district is currently in the process of conducting background checks and police verification on its 8,500 temporary workers as a precursor to its reopening, likely in three weeks.
It may be recalled that a little over a month ago, thousands of contract workers employed by Wistron through six third-party providers had resorted to violence and vandalism and brought the company’s operations to a standstill after it failed to honour their salaries and overtime allowances for several months.
