Canada immigration authorities are moving to abolish the special
Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) processing reserved for
candidates in the owner/operator
category.
As of April 1, 2021, owner/operator candidates will be
assessment on the same basis as other TFWP applicants.
Currently, candidates in the category are exempt from the
advertising and recruitment requirements for obtaining a positive
Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
But this exemption is being removed as part of regular
policy reviews to ensure the TFWP continues to work within its
intended purpose, and is only used by employers to fill a position

NOIDA: A city-based engineer lost $12,460, or a little over Rs 9 lakh, to cyber criminals who claimed they could get him a job and permanent residency in Canada.
Rohit Sood, the victim, said that he had applied for a job in Canada and other countries through websites during the lockdown. In September last year, a ‘Canada-based’ company, Skanska Engineering, rang him up with a job offer. It had been organised, the firm told him, by a placement company called Placement Seekers.
“I had applied on many websites so they may have picked up my CV from there. A person who identified herself as Trisha Watson called me up in September 2020 and said she was a representative of the firm. They told me my CV had been shortlisted. After one round of a telephonic interview and another on Zoom, they offered me employment in Canada,” Sood told TOI.

Eligible immigration candidates are given a score based on the CRS. Points are awarded for factors that the government has determined will help a prospective immigrant succeed in Canada’s labour market. These factors include a candidate’s age, education, work experience, language ability in English or French, and others.
About every two weeks, Canada’s immigration department, IRCC, holds Express Entry draws inviting candidates to apply for immigration. The highest-scoring candidates receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence. If they are approved, they receive a Confirmation of Permanent Residence and their final step is to make their landing in Canada. After that they are officially permanent residents.
