Saudi Arabia looking into possibility of ending kafala system for domestic workers DFA By VIRGIL LOPEZ, GMA News Published April 22, 2021 2:06pm Saudi Arabia is studying the possibility of scrapping the kafala or sponsorship system for domestic workers, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday. “There is no turning back because the reforms have started already,” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Arriola said at the Laging Handa briefing. “Saudi Arabia is already studying whether to include our household service workers.” At present, only skilled and semi-skilled foreign workers in Saudi Arabia can benefit from its Labor Reform Initiative.

Saudi Arabia registers 466 new foreign investor licences in Q4 RIYADH, 4 days ago Saudi Arabia has registered a record-high foreign investor licences in the fourth quarter of 2020 totalling 466, which was up 52% compared to the previous quarter and around 60% over the same period in 2019, reported SPA.    In light of exceptional circumstances during the year 2020 and the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Saudi economy maintained its resilience and proved its flexibility in facing crises, and began to recover gradually during the second half of the year.   A set of indicators showed the strength of economic performance, as the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (MISA) published the foreign investor licenses for the 4th Quarter of 2020, where it recorded 466 registered licenses, the highest on record since data began in 2005.
