The Government is to establish a €3 million training, upskilling and business start-up fund to assist the former Debenhams workers who lost their jobs when the company s Irish operation went into liquidation last year with the loss of around 1,200 jobs.
The proposal is part of a recommendation drawn up by mediator and Labour Court Chairman Kevin Foley following extensive engagement with the workers and their union Mandate, the liquidators KPMG, and various Government agencies in a bid to resolve the long-running dispute over enhanced redundancy payments.
