Over 2,000 new Omani teachers to be appointed for next academic year

Dubai: More than 2,000 new Omani teachers will be appointed in the next academic year 2021 – 2022, as part of the country’s Omanisation drive, local media reported. The Omani Ministry of Labour, in coordination with the Education Ministry has completed the procedures for appointing a total of 2,364 Omani teachers who passed employment tests. According to Basem bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Head of the Labour Statistics Department at the Ministry of Labour, Omanisation policies and the replacement of expats with Omanis lead to 218,000 expatriates leaving the private and public sectors between March 2020 and March 2021. Omanisation plans The bringing in of more Omanis into the labour force is part of the ministry’s efforts to step up its Omanisation plans in the private and public sectors, he said.

A survey by the GSO reveals that though there was a fall in employment in the first quarter of 2021, the number of working females rose against the same period last year. The increase, however, was largely due to a higher number of women working in the informal sector, the GSO said, adding that the growth of females in informal sector was higher than that of males.
