NIU to require masks for all individuals on campus

Northern Star DeKALB – NIU will continue to require face masks for all individuals, including those who are fully vaccinated, while indoors with few exemptions, according to a May 18 NIU announcement email. The university plans to require face masks for all individuals, even those who are fully vaccinated, on campus in light of the recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announcement that lifted indoor mask guidelines for fully vaccinated people.   Face masks won’t be required in cases of private offices or personal workspaces on campus, in meetings where all people are fully vaccinated and in research labs where all people are fully vaccinated, according to the email. Supervisors may ask employees to voluntarily disclose their vaccination status or show proof. 

County cases rise to 10,096

Northern Star DeKALB  The DeKalb County Health Department announced Friday the number of positive COVID-19 cases increased to 10,096. Among those who’ve tested positive for the coronavirus, 1,808 are younger than 19, 2,455 are in their 20s, 1,514 are in their 30s, 1,378 are in their 40s, 1,249 are in their 50s, 835 are in their 60s, 447 are in their 70s and 410 are 80 or older. As of Friday, 117 people have died from the coronavirus in the county, according to the DCHD. DeKalb County has administered 72,488 vaccines as of Friday, and 32,108 county residents are fully vaccinated, 30% of the county population, according to state vaccine data. Statewide, there are 1.3 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 22,369 recorded deaths as of 5 p.m. Friday, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

AUBURN — The DeKalb County Health Department on Wednesday reported four new cases of COVID-19 in DeKalb County residents. The county has reported 76 cases in the first 12 days of May, an average of 6.3 per day. Wednesday new patients include one each in the 21-30, 31-40, 41-50 and 51-60 age groups. The new patients bring the total to 4,325 DeKalb County residents who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the first local case was reported March 24, 2020.

The new patients bring the total to 4,321 DeKalb County residents who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the first local case was reported March 24, 2020. The Indiana Department of Health announced today that 687 additional Hoosiers have been diagnosed with COVID-19 through testing at state and private laboratories. That brings to 730,969 the number of Indiana residents now known to have had the novel coronavirus. To date, 13,018 Hoosiers are confirmed to have died from COVID-19, an increase of 15 from the Monday. Another 416 probable deaths have been reported.
