BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): Mae Sot officials are concerned about the situation along the Thai-Myanmar border at Tha Song Yang district, Tak province, after Myanmar’s government ordered three battalion commanders to be removed from office on charges of “conspiracy with foreigners to destroy the country” and a clash in the neighbouring nation between its military and ethic rebels.
This has resulted in a tense border situation on the Myanmar side, which is already grappling with the spread of Covid-19.
There is also a potential risk of more clashes between Myanmar’s military and ethnic armed forces after the three commanders were dismissed.

BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): Dr Manoon Leechawengwongs, a respiratory and critical care specialist at Bangkok’s Vichaiyut Hospital, is advising the government to administer one dose of Covid-19 vaccine to members of the public and migrant workers because the supply of the vaccines will not be able to meet the global demand.
He said Thailand has ordered 63 million doses, which will cover slightly over 30 million people at the rate of two doses per person.
Of the 63 million vaccines, 2 million doses will come from China’s Sinovac and 61 million from AstraZeneca.
“I advise the government to administer one dose each to people in Thailand, including migrant workers. That way we will have enough vaccines available to deliver two doses to medical personnel and people in the vulnerable group, ” he said.

BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): The government is expected to announce a fresh economic stimulus package in the next couple of weeks to mitigate the impact of the second wave of Covid-19, a senior official of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) said.
BANGKOK (The Nation/ANN): Thai National Shippers Council (TNSC) expects exports this month to only grow by 3 to 4 per cent, as the new wave of Covid-19 infections is expected to further affect the export sector.
TNSC president Kanyapak Tantipipattanapong, however, admitted that the new normal and the work-from-home trend has somewhat boosted the demand for food, medical supplies and consumer products.
However, she pinpointed four negative points that will affect Thailand’s export sector this year, namely:
• A new wave of Covid-19 outbreak, which is likely to be more severe, especially in the UK, rest of Europe, South Korea and Japan.
