Legendary illusionist and escape artist Harry Houdini died almost 100 years ago, so this weekend his last remaining descendants will accept the honor of him being inducted into the National Museum of American Jewish History Only in America Hall of Fame.
And because there’s always a Rochester connection, one of those descendants is from Greece.
Jeff Blood called it “a huge honor” to be included in the ceremony, which will be held online starting at 8 p.m. Saturday. “The Houdinis are second to none,” he said.

An Upstate New York descendant of Harry Houdini will accept an honor on behalf of the legendary magician this weekend.
The Democrat & Chronicle reports Greece, N.Y., resident Jeff Blood, whose mother Marie Hinson Blood was the niece of Houdini and his wife Bess, will be included in an induction ceremony for Houdini in the National Museum of American Jewish History Only in America Hall of Fame. The event will be streamed online free Saturday at 8 p.m.
According to the Rochester newspaper, Houdini never had children of his own but was close with Jeff Blood’s mother, who died in 2004. Hinson Blood grew up in New York City and moved to Rochester when her husband, Forest, took a job with General Railway Signal.
