Rochelle, 2018 Graduate
I am a Gamilaraay woman. While I have been lucky enough to have lived throughout Australia including several years in Marble Bar and Broome in WA and Sydney, NSW I have for the past 9 and a bit years lived in Bendigo, Victoria where my parents and sister still live. I moved to Canberra in early 2018.
I have a Bachelor of Arts with a double Major in Ancient World Studies and Politics and International Studies and a Masters of Information Studies. While working on my master’s, I worked as IT Manager at Woor-Dungin, a non-for-profit organisation that aims to increase resources, build strong partnerships and share knowledge to fulfil the purpose of Aboriginal community-controlled organisations. While at Woor-Dungin, I also served on a variety of administrative committees and was particularly involved in Woor-Dungin’s role as Philanthropy Australia National Moderator for Indigenous Issues. I was a founding member of and continue to serve on the Moderator Ro

Priorities
Extend national reach and engagement, increasing the number and diversity of Australians who engage with the Library’s collections.
Provide great onsite and digital experiences that delight, inspire and nourish Australians’ curiosity about the nation’s past, present and future.
Actions 2018-19
Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Library’s iconic building, engaging Australians with their national library and its potential to enrich their lives and communities.
Open a major exhibition, Cook and the Pacific, drawing on the Library’s collections, as well as those at other national and international institutions.
With the National Museum of Australia and Australian National Maritime Museum, deliver a digital platform to support access to national collections and community engagement around the 250th anniversary of James Cook’s first Pacific voyage.
While a large amount of our resources are books and journal articles, reflecting Trove’s bibliographic roots, most of our collecting effort goes to unique Australian content. That’s the stuff that gets us excited. That’s the stuff that we want to help make as accessible as possible.
I’ll admit that aggregation in itself doesn’t seem particularly exciting – we’ve been doing this stuff for many years, generations of portals have come and gone. But what does get me excited are some of the things that aggregation makes possible or easier – possibilities beyond the search box, beyond simple discovery.
