April 14, 2021: the National Asian Pacific American Women s Forum (NAPAWF) released a landmark survey that uncovers the priorities and perspectives of Asian American and Pacific Islander women, communities that have largely been under studied. One of the key findings of the wide-ranging research project was that 8 in 10 AAPI women want their elected officials to better understand how their perspectives differ from other communities. Despite being one of the fastest growing electorates in the United States, the AAPI community has historically been one of the most understudied racial groups in the country. This lack of data has perpetuated the harmful model minority myth that paints Asian Americans as inherently successful - rendering the struggles and realities of the diverse AAPI community invisible.
