Warning over coronavirus vaccine scam targeting Halton residents COVID scams are circulating in Runcorn and Widnes targeting the most vulnerable by offering people a vaccine in order to get their personal details and banking information - according to the council. A fake email is sent stating that the receiver ‘has been selected to receive a coronavirus vaccination’. It also informs them that the NHS is ‘performing selection for the vaccines on the basis of family genetics and family history’. Halton Borough Council s Executive Board Member for Trading Standards, Cllr Dave Cargill, said: In the UK, coronavirus vaccines will only be available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
People had received texts, claiming to be from the NHS, asking people to book a vaccination appointment. A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “In the UK, coronavirus vaccines will only be available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. “You can be contacted by the NHS, your employer, a GP surgery or pharmacy local to you, to receive your vaccine. Remember, the vaccine is free of charge. At no point will you be asked to pay. The NHS will never ask you for your bank account or card details, ask you for your PIN or banking password, arrive unannounced at your home to administer the vaccine or ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as your passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips.
