Acting Attorney General Zabihullah Kalim Takes Office Zabihullah Kalim, a graduate of Al Azhar University in Egypt and the University of California, assumed office as the acting attorney general at a ceremony in Kabul on Sunday, during which he was asked by Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh to not bow to pressure from strongmen and the wealthy.   He was also asked by the second vice president to ensure justice and to strengthen the fight against corruption.    “(The attorney general) should not be influenced by anyone in ensuring justice; otherwise, the Attorney General’s Office will change into a tool for strongmen or wealthy men,” Danesh said. 

NDS chief warns Taliban preparing for war not peace

(Last Updated On: April 3, 2021) Ahmad Zia Saraj, Chief of the National Directorate of Security, said Saturday that the Taliban has no intention of laying down arms, nor does it want peace as they are preparing to intensify the conflict across the country. Addressing a press conference, Saraj stated that the group has increased attacks on Afghan forces since the beginning of the new solar year. “The Taliban are preparing for war. The group has no will for peace. The members of the group are busy harvesting poppies and then they (Taliban militants) have planned to carry out attacks on various parts of the country,” Saraj stated.

Six Security Force Members Killed in Herat: Officials Six security force members were killed and several more were wounded in separate attacks and a blast in the western province of Herat since Wednesday night, local officials said on Thursday. Herat governor Sayed Waheed Qatali said that four security force members were killed in Taliban attacks on Shindand, Obe and Pashtun Zarghon districts of the province on Wednesday night. One of the incidents was a car bomb attack close to a National Directorate of Security (NDS) facility followed by clashes with security forces in which four security force members were killed and several others were wounded, he said.

On Tuesday, three female health workers were shot dead as gunmen opened fire on a polio vaccination team in Jalalabad, capital of Nangarhar province.
