Amanda Gorman, the Harvard University graduate who wowed millions of viewers with her poem recital at President Biden’s inauguration, claims she was hounded by a security guard at her apartment complex on Friday.
The 22-year-old activist, who was 2017 National Youth Poet Laureate, added that the man referred to her as “suspicious.”
“A security guard tailed me on my walk home tonight. He demanded if I lived there because “you look suspicious,” tweeted Gorman on Friday. “I showed my keys and buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology. This is the reality of black girls. One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat.”
