A 34-year-old Beaumont, Texas man has been sentenced to federal prison for carjacking and firearms violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced Acting U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei today.
Thaddiaus Joseph Thomas pleaded guilty on August 12, 2020 to discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence and carjacking and was sentenced to 198 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

MISSOULA â A Manhattan man who was convicted at trial of providing false information on a form when trying to buy a firearm was sentenced today to 13 months in prison and three years of supervised release, Acting U.S. Attorney Leif Johnson said Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021.
U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen, on Oct. 1, 2020, found Joshua Rodney Meech, 29, guilty of false statement during a firearms transaction. The one-day bench trial was held on Sept. 28, 2020.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence that Meech attempted to buy a 9mm semi-automatic pistol from Bob Ward & Sons, Inc., in Bozeman on April 4, 2020. FARGO Firearms sales closed 2020 with a flourish in the Fargo-Moorhead area, a trend which has local vendors citing a variety of factors.
When the COVID-19 pandemic reached the United States in March, firearms sales jumped dramatically, nationwide and in the F-M area. Given the uncertainty of the time, when basic household essentials were difficult to come by, consumers turned to guns in record numbers.
Statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigation illustrate the trend. The bureau s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) processed 3.7 million firearms background checks in March, up by more than one million from March of 2019.
