Companies across hospitality, retail, consumer and auto sectors fear labour could migrate to villages once again after steep rise in new Covid-19 cases in several cities and subsequent restrictions and lockdowns in a few states. Reverse migration has already begun at restaurants and the retail sector in cities such as Mumbai and Delhi, which companies say could trickle down to other segments.

As Maharashtra remains the worst affected state in India hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, with positive case numbers worse than the year before, the state now has a partial lockdown once again.
As shutters come down on restaurants, the owners are looking at a fate that they had never imagined.
Just days after Maharashtra imposed stringent restrictions, Delhi came under night curfew starting Tuesday to control the spread of Covid cases. Following its latest round of review, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority decided to announce a 10 pm to 5 am curfew till the end of the month. “It has been observed that there has been a sudden increase in Covid-19 cases in the recent past along with high positivity rate and therefore it is felt that night curfew needs to be imposed in the territory of NCT of Delhi…,’’ the DDMA order said. Essential activities and services can continue as usual.
