It may come as a surprise to learn that many people who experience domestic abuse in a relationship are dealing with more than just physical and verbal abuse from their significant others. A study conducted by the Center for Financial Security showed that 99% of domestic abuse involves some financial abuse on top of the better-known forms of abuse. The study also found that most domestic abuse cases start with a subtle form of financial abuse and then escalate into physical violence or verbal, emotional or sexual abuse.
Why do most people miss the warning signs or the overt ways that their abuser controls them and creates financial dependency? One main reason is that education around this kind of abuse is not as publicized or shared as other forms of abuse.
Jason Miller gets one year jail sentence for vandalism charge

On Tuesday Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller, 40, plead guilty to a vandalism charge and was immediately sentenced to 364 days in jail (per
CBSLA). Miller has been in jail since August 21 when he was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary and car theft. At that time he was serving probation in connection with a domestic violence case.
Miller’s most recent sentence is the result of a plea deal. That deal saw one count of felony grand theft auto dropped in exchange for his guilty plea on the vandalism charge. Miller, who last fought in 2016, has had numerous run ins with the law in recent years.

When Sheryl Kurland of Longwood, Fla., began traveling around the country doing interactive speaking engagements for college women on the topics of healthy relationships and sexuality, she was stunned at the amount of sexual assault these young women confessed to. Through interactive exercises and games, I would also ask these college-age women to list their relationship priorities like communication, trust, and sex, in order of importance. She d end with the message that trust is the foundation of any healthy and safe relationship.

Dear Annie: I have been with my husband for more than 25 years, and I have allowed things to get out of hand. Over the years, he has done a lot for my daughter and her kids, and he has brought me used cars that I did not ask for but appreciate. When we go on vacation, I pay my share. Whenever we talk, we get into arguments. He throws all of what he has done for me and my daughter and grandkids, and he makes it seem as if everything wrong is my fault.
