Native American cultures, languages, lands and lives were all systematically and forcibly taken through colonization. Our ancestors endured genocide and assimilation for more than five centuries.
Today, there is ample evidence that genocide still occurs through the inhumane conditions on reservations, the jurisdictional issues that prevent the prosecution of non-Native perpetrators on tribal lands and ignoring the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis.

SALT LAKE CITY A former Public Enemy No. 1 in Salt Lake County with a long history of violence was arrested over the weekend in connection with the death of his girlfriend whose body was found in a car crashed on I-80.
Terence Trent Vos, 31, of Salt Lake City, is accused of shooting and killing Shandon Nicole Scott, 32, early Saturday.
A candlelight vigil was held Sunday night at Fitts Park where dozens of friends and family members gathered to remember Scott. She was so loved and so cared about, said Heather Redford. She was my best friend. It s just horrible.

SOUTH SALT LAKE â Friends and family members held a vigil Sunday to honor the life of Shandon Nicole Scott.
Scott is believed by police to have been shot and killed by her boyfriend Saturday morning. Her body was
found in a car on I-80 westbound near the State Street and 700 East exits. When police arrived, the driver was gone. Police later arrested the suspect in Scottâs murder. The suspect has been identified by Unified Police as Terence Trent Vos.

DEAR ABBY: My wife and I have been married five years and are raising four children. One is from my previous relationship, one is from her previous relationship and two are ours. We both have joint custody. My son goes to school near his mom. My wife’s son goes to school where we live. They are 9 and 8.
There’s a lot of tension between us because my stepson’s father isn’t the greatest parent. He never comes to school events or sporting events, so he misses half of everything. I regularly attend my son’s events, which are a couple of hours away and take time away from my stepson. I put my 9-year-old first because he’s my firstborn, and I have him less. My wife disagrees with this, and we fight about it constantly. I believe I am doing the right thing. Advice, please. WONDERING IN WISCONSIN
