The number of pieces of machinery equipped with smart mining technologies reached 494 at the end of 2020, up 80 percent from the previous year. The growth has been rapid as the number was only three in 2015, according to the National Mine Safety Administration. Nineteen kinds of robots were working in underground coal mines for mining, drilling and patrolling at the end of 2020. The country has closed 5,464 coal mines that were vulnerable to accidents over the past five years.

Song no longer serves as deputy head of the National Mine Safety Administration. Zhuang Guotai was appointed head of the China Meteorological Administration, replacing Liu Yaming. Zhuang no longer serves as vice minister of ecology and environment. Li Shulei was appointed vice president of the National Academy of Governance, replacing He Yiting.

Over 750 non-coal mines suspended amid China s workplace safety campaign - China News

Mine safety watchdogs in the country have also issued 41 new local regulations and standards on workplace safety in non-coal mines, and established more than 90,000 lists of hidden dangers and 22,000 lists of systems and measures, said Xue Jianguang, an official with the administration, at a press conference on Tuesday. While mentioning preliminary results achieved, Xue highlighted typical problems found during the campaign, including some enterprises that had continued their violations despite repeated prohibitions.
