The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has begun the construction of a 1×7.5MVA, 33/11kV injection distribution substation in Orogun, Delta State to boost power supply to the community.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony at the weekend, the Managing Director/CEO, NDPHC, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo said the injection substation which is an NDPHC/National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) intervention project would also boost economic activities in the community.
Ugbo explained that the project, a 1×7.5MVA 33/11KV injection substation, will step down power from the already existing 33KV line to 11kV, disclosing that the project involves the construction of 4km of 11KV line to distribute the power to the community.
According to news reports, the Minister of Power, Mamman Saleh on Wednesday said the distribution of the four million free electricity prepaid meters pledged by the Central Bank of Nigeria would soon begin across the country.
According to him, the government is wrapping up the distribution of its initial one million meters, which he labelled phase zero, and would soon begin the distribution of the four million sponsored by CBN, which he tagged phase two. He also noted that the Federal Executive Council approved N3bn for the execution of six major electricity projects in the country to upgrade Nigeria’s electricity facilities and improve power supply across the country.

Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, Deputy President of the Senate, on Saturday said the Federal Government was committed to ending the estimated billing syndrome in the nation’s power sector.
Omo-Agege made this known at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Power Sub-Station in Orogun, Ughellli North Local Government Area of Delta.
The project is being constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and National Integrated Power Power Project (NIPP).

A former Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Limited (NBET), Mr. Rumundaka Wonodi, has said that the proposed sale of five power generating plants by the federal government will not solve Nigeriaâs perennial supply challenges, especially in the short-term. Wonodi, however, described the recent moves to dispose of the assets as more of a revenue generation drive, rather than stabilising the sector.
He advised that more states should be actively involved in getting experts to boost power supply in their respective domains.
The federal government had recently approved the sale of five generating companies – Geregu, Benin (Ihovbor), Calabar, Omotosho and Olorunsogo power generation companies, built under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).
