Oil and gas industry fights Morrison government levy of up to $1bn to decommission rig

Offshore oil and gas producers are fighting a Morrison government decision to impose a levy on the entire industry to fund a potential $1bn remediation of a floating rig and associated fields in the Timor Sea formerly operated by Woodside Petroleum. Other options put forward by the industry’s peak body, the Australian Petroleum Production & Exploration Association (Appea), include taxpayers footing the bill by using unspent petroleum resource.

The following activities are proposed: drilling and development of three GWF-3 production wells drilling and development of one LD production well installation and pre-commissioning of flowlines, production manifold (LD only), umbilicals complete with umbilical termination assemblies, hydraulic flying leads and electrical flying leads tie-in to existing subsea infrastructure pull-in of the LD flowline and LD umbilical to the Angel Platform via existing, unused J-tubes pre-commissioning of the new subsea infrastructure.
