NGCP tower toppled in Lanao Del Norte on January 19, 2021 at 8:10 am
A transmission tower of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in Tangcal, Lanao Del Norte was toppled on Monday.
In a statement, the grid firm said that Tower #60 of its Balo-i-Aurora 138kV line in Poona went off-position due to the intentional pilferage of transmission line parts, causing rotational brownouts not only in Lanao Del Norte, but also in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Misamis Occidental.
NGCP is working with authorities to secure the area and to identify the perpetrators of the sabotage. Restoration of tower 60 will commence as soon as the area is secured.

Sporadic power interruptions were experienced in Mindanao on Monday (January 18), following reported sabotage on a transmission facility of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) – primarily Tower 60 of the 138-kilovolt Balo-i-Aurora line in Tangcal, Lanao del Norte.
The attack on the facility, according to NGCP, resulted in manual load dropping or major service interruptions in the franchise area of several electric cooperatives in Mindanao, chiefly those in Zamboanga Peninsula, Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte which had to suffer blackouts in their service network.
The customers who were tormented with brownouts because of the assault on the facilities are those served by the Zamboanga del Sur I Electric Cooperative (ZAMSURECO I) and ZAMSURECO II; Zamboanga del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc.; Misamis Occidental I Electric Cooperative Inc. (MOELCI I); MOELCI II and Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc.

Senator urges review of surcharges being passed on to consumers May kaunting liwanag tayong nasilayan.
This according to Senator Risa Hontiveros, as she welcomed the announcement of power distributor giant Manila Electric Company (Meralco) that it will implement a relaxed case-to-case basis policy for disconnecting consumers unable to pay their bills.
Hontiveros made the statement as MERALCO responded to her earlier appeal for leniency and flexibility for delinquent MERALCO consumers. MERALCO also committed to exhausting all means to avoid disconnection of its consumers. Nagtitiwala akong patuloy na magbibigay ng konsiderasyon ang Meralco, lalo na sa mga kababayan nating hirap makabayad ng kuryente, she said.

Published January 18, 2021 10:29am Senator Risa Hontiveros on Monday said the Department of Energy and Energy Regulatory Commission should review the surcharges that are being passed on to electricity consumers in the Philippines amid the COVID-19 pandemic. There must be a comprehensive review of these surcharges being shouldered by consumers. One of these is the controversial 15% weighted average cost of capital na binigay ng ERC para sa State Grid of China at mga local partners nito sa National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). Halos doble ito sa 8% average global standard in terms of transmission rate, Hontiveros said in a statement.
TAGUIG, Jan. 16 The Department of Energy (DOE), on instruction of Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, convened the Energy family and the various power generation companies (GenCos) on Tuesday (12 January), to assess the power situation in Luzon and ensure that there will be enough supply, especially during the summer months.
The three-hour meeting, which was organized by the Electrical Power Industry Management (EPIMB) Bureau headed by Undersecretary Emmanuel P. Juaneza, discussed the anticipated issues relative to ensuring sufficient power capacities in the Luzon Grid.
Undersecretary Juaneza, in his opening statement, cited the need to have sufficient power supply and prevent power outages that inconveniences the consumers and disrupts business operations during the country’s recovery from the effects of the pandemic.
