The Hershey Co. on April 20 said it has power purchase agreements (PPAs) to take electricity from two solar projects, one in North Carolina and another in Texas. Hershey, like many corporate power customers, has set a goal to reduce its carbon footprint and has begun investing in renewable energy developments. The Pennsylvania-based snacks producer on Tuesday said the projects “will support the company’s recently announced science-based targets commitments to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.”

Noble consists of 275 megawatts (MW) of solar and 125 megawatt hours (MWh) of battery storage. The Home Depot and NRG have each executed individual 100 MW solar PPAs, and The Hershey Company has contracted for a 50 MW solar PPA.

For the first project, located in Camden, North Carolina, Hershey has made a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) that will enable the financing and construction of the company’s first utility-scale solar farm. This solar project will be a 20 megawatt (MW-AC) facility on 218 acres of land. Once completed, the North Carolina project will reduce CO2 emission by 32,025 metric tons per year. Construction of the new solar farm is expected to be completed in late July.
