So path-breaking and impactful has been her work, that Mitra, in 2018, was inducted into the US Patent Office’s National Inventors Hall of Fame, and earlier this month, was honoured by the European Patent Office with the European Inventor Award 2021.

(Photo by Jay Premack/USPTO) On July 1, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves visited the USPTO headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. During his visit, he toured the National Inventors Hall of Fame museum, experienced a “day in the life” of a patent examiner and a trademark examining attorney, and met with leadership about the USPTO’s role in advancing American competitiveness. He later received a surprise framed copy of his ancestor’s patent, who was one of the Nation’s first Black patent holders.
